Caroline Meaden 

 

Caroline is a Naarm/Melbourne based performer and choreographer working across dance, language and performance mediums. She grew up in Djilang/Geelong and is a graduate of Adelaide College of the Arts (Bachelor of Dance Performance) and Victorian College of the Arts (Postgraduate Diploma in Performance Creation - Choreography). She is currently studying a Masters of Speech Pathology.

 

As a dancer and performer she has worked with artists and companies including Sandra Parker, Natalie Cursio, Michelle Heaven, Phillip Adams BalletLab, Walter Dundervill, The Merce Cunningham Trust (for NGA) Monica Bill Barnes and Company, Shelley Lasica, Paea Leach, Reckless Sleepers (BEL/UK), Rob McCredie, Anna Smith, Opera Australia and Malia Johnston (NZ) among others.

 

With her collaboration, Alice Will Caroline (https://www.slown.net), she has created and performed works for the Keir Choreographic Award (Dancehouse and Carriageworks 2022), the Dance Massive Festival (Arts House 2019), Next Wave (the Substation 2018), FOLA (Arts House 2018), MEL&NYC Festival (NGV 2018), La Mama (2021), Abbotsford Convent (2016) and Melbourne Fringe (Darebin Arts Speakeasy 2015). Their work has received numerous accolades, including a 2019 Green Room Award for Best Ensemble Performance (Dance). Caroline was also nominated for Best Performer for her work in Lady Example.

 

Caroline has had residencies at Lucy Guerin Inc, Geelong Arts Centre, Dancehouse, Tasdance, Chunky Move, Boyd Studio (City of Melbourne) and Vitalstatistix (Adhocracy) among others, and has been funded by the Australia Council, Creative Victoria, Besen Foundation and Creative Partnerships Australia. In 202 Caroline was a recipient of a Chunky Move ‘Solitude’ home residency grant in partnership with the Tanja Liedtke Foundation, and travelled to New York, along with Alice and Will, through an Australia Council Career Development grant. 

 

She has taught dance at various schools and studios, including at Victorian College of the Arts and Lucy Guerin Inc, and she has been an active advocate for the Melbourne dance community, publishing several written pieces - for Delving Into Dance and DAMN Writing. She is also a trainee Audio Describer.

 

This year Caroline worked as Movement Director on ‘Mountain’, a new play by Kit Brookman and Andre Jewson at Geelong Arts Centre, and undertook creative research as part of Creative Victoria’s Creators Fund Program, while collaborating with fellow dance artists and continuing her studies.
