Alice Dixon
Alice is a graduate of The National Theatre Ballet School (Diploma in Classical Dance – graduated 2004), The University of Melbourne (Bachelor of Science – graduated 2009) and The Victorian College of Arts (Postgraduate Diploma in Performance Creation [Choreography] – graduated 2013 with First Class Honours).
As a dancer and performer she has worked with Australian and International artists and companies including: Natalie Cursio Co. (2005–2018); Opera Australia (2007–2018); Caroline Meaden (2006–present); Phillip Adams BalletLab (2011); Lucy Guerin (2020–present); Antony Hamilton/Chunky Move (2018–2019); Deanne Butterworth (2020–present); Monica Bill Barnes and Company (2018); Walter Dundervill (2020); Victoria Chui (2020); Aphids (2022); Nebahat Erpolat (2015); Rob McCredie (2009); Reckless Sleepers (2015); one step at a time like this… (2014); Eugenia Lim (2018); and Gabrielle de Vetri (2008).
She has worked as a movement director, choreographer and revival choreographer across dance, theatre and opera with companies including Opera Australia, Rawcus and QL2 Dance.
Alice and Caroline have been working together since 2006. Together they have created works for the Victorian College of Arts (Dance School), Short and Sweet dance festival, Melbourne Fringe and Natalie Cursio’s ‘Private Dances’.
Solo Choreographies include: ‘And Then’, choreographic commission by Lucy Guerin Inc, presented in Pieces for Small Spaces (2014); ‘The Bush Capital’ for Blowin’ Up - The Substation’s curated Melbourne Fringe Program (2016); ‘Alices’ – VCA Postgraduate Performance Season (2013).
Alice’s work has been supported by residencies including: Lucy Guerin Inc. Studio Residency; PAF Summer University (France); Maximised by Chunky Move; Arts House Four Walls; Tasdance TRIP Residency; Dancehouse; Orbost Centre for Dance Research (Rosalind Crisp and Andrew Morrish); Mosaico Danza (Italy); and Strange Attractor: Make, Think, Speak with David Pledger (Gorman House, ACT). She has received funding from the Australia Council for the Arts (ArtsStart); Besen Family Foundation; the City of Melbourne (Young Artist Grant); and Creative Victoria (project funding).
Alice is a regular contemporary dance teacher at Lucy Guerin Inc. and Chunky Move. She has also taught dance to students of the Victorian College of Arts, Transit Dance and NICA (National Institute of Circus Arts).
